The ICT Fund, an initiative by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, announced today its participation at the "Think Science" Fair, which starts on Sunday April 20 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The purpose of ICT Fund's participation is to bridge the communications gap and interact with distinguished Emirati youth who excel in the science and technology field. ICT Fund has a stand with the Dubai Astronomy Group to update participating and visiting students on the latest trends in science and technology, and ICT Fund’s role in supporting Emirati innovative scientific ideas that reflect positively on the national economy.
“Think Science” is one of the region's largest student science exhibition serving as an interactive scientific forum that brings together UAE young talents and encourages creativity, innovation, implementation of ideas and scientific inventions. It is also a perfect platform for youth who are interested in science to connect with a network of experts and institutions working in different scientific fields that contribute to developing young Emirati youth to pursue their full potential. Additionally, “Think Science” plays an important role in encouraging young people to choose scientific fields as a course of study and future career path including engineering, aviation, energy, health, and others, which will therefore build a future generation of scientists armed with topnotch modern skills needed to attain the UAE vision in building a strong and sustainable knowledge economy.
The ICT Fund will be present on its stand with a team from Dubai Astronomy Group which will exhibit the most important updates regarding the UAE National Astronomical Telescope (National Observatory) launched in October 2013 with support and funding from the ICT Fund. This project aims to monitor sites and conduct astronomical communications research. A team of Dubai Astronomy Group will cooperate with the ICT Fund to organize scientific and educational contests for the participating students to inspire them and provide them with knowledge development opportunities through interactive programs and workshops and enroll them with scientific activities on both national and international levels, in collaboration with the leading entities and institutions in this sector.
“Our participation in the “Think Science” fair, the nation’s biggest science innovations event, exemplifies our commitment to bridge the gap and connect with Emiratis youth interested in science and technology and most intellectual and creative areas as the UAE achieves steady progress towards the future, building a strong base of Emirati talent armed with skills and values of a knowledge economy under the directions of its wise leadership. And in order to achieve this vision, it is very crucial to empower UAE human capital which is the pivot of any progress by improving sustainable development at schools and educational institutions and seminars and workshops devoted to science and technology. This will ensure providing an ecosystem for all the entities and institutions and individuals in the country for a new generation of talents to come,” commented Omar Mohammed Al Mahmoud, Acting CEO of ICT fund.
